Building bunk beds into a motorhome

Posted by: DaveLJ

Tagged in: Untagged

Recently we had a couple come in that were going to travel full time with three young children. They wanted to be able to put the kids down to sleep and still be able to use the living area in their coach. They had done a lot of searching for a new coach and after talking with us, decided on a model with a hallway closet that could be converted into a bunk area. We removed the closet doors (saving them for re-installation for resale) and installed two upper bunks with a slide bunk below the lowest one. Inside each bunk we installed a fan  and a reading light, with curtains to close off the two upper bunks.

Relocating a motor home TV.

Most of our TV conversions consist of removing an old tube TV and modifying the cabinet for a flat screen installation. This customer wanted to move the TV to an entire different position. behind  the mid entry door was a small bank of cabinets. This space was just right for a 32" LCD. We removed the TV from the front and rebuilt the center with a new matching door, then we built a custom cabinet to accept the new TV where the old cabinets were. We  installed  a  power outlet and ran the coax cable back to the new TV position. Once completed, you couldnt tell it wasnt a factory installation.
I am putting up a couple of photos of works in progress, we always show you the completed projects and i thought some of you might like to see a couple of photos showing the stripped out units. One is getting a tv conversion, the other new flooring and corian countertops.

To people who follow our blog, I apologize for not keeping up with my postings. Business has been great and its been really hard to keep up. So better than not posting, I will try to at least share some of the great remodels we are doing in pictures with brief descriptions. Here is a coach that got new flooring, furniture and some reupholstery on the booth and window treatments, and, of course, a flat screen.

Monaco Signature Series Makeover

This coach was in amazing shape for a ten year old rig, however the customers were ready to freshen up and update the interior. The cost of a fairly extensive remodel can be a relatively small investment when weighed against trading in for a new coach. The Tile floor was in decent shape, outside of a few loose tiles and the ten year old grout. We reset a few tiles and regrouted the entire tile area. New carpet was installed in the bedroom and the front end, along with new rubber treads on the entry. We installed new corian counters, sinks and covers in the kitchen,  a new corian dinette table and a custom built walnut magazine rack with a new corian top as well. A glass mosaic tile backsplash finished off the new kitchen.

New wallpaper was installed from front to back. Custom built window treatments with seperate decor for the living room and bedroom were done, along with MCD American Duo shades for all of the coach windows.

We recovered one of the factory sofas, and installed two Flexsteel wall hugger recliners in ultra leather on the other side.

The end result was a beautiful new interior, and another happy customer. They will be having a new paint job done as soon as possible to make the coach look new on the outside as well.
Business has been incredible this spring, we have added several new employees and we have a lot of exciting projects going on at any time, and welcome people to stop by and check them out.

Plenty of parking, but sometimes just not enough lately!

Tile flooring in a Travel Supreme!

This coach had some nice tile work done in the kitchen, bath and the front landing, but the carpet in the living room was starting to show some wear. This customer wanted tile all the way from the  front firewall clear back through the bedroom. We chipped up all of the existing tile and removed the remaining carpet. New tile was installed using the diamond pattern with accent tiles set in a pattern throughout, this is a fairly difficult installation as every single tile must have at least one corner cut off. We also installed a very rich carpet with a pattern repeat on the slide outs. The bedroom TV was replaced with a flat screen on a swing out arm to give better viewing angle, and we installed MCD cockpit shades and valances in the front to eliminate the pleated curtain and power visors.

Tile backsplash in a motorhome

A lot of coaches came out of the factory with mirrors installed on the kitchen backsplash. While the mirror's do give the coaches a nice look, along with making the room seem bigger, they can be hard to keep clean and looking nice. This customer wanted the mirrors removed from the kitchen and the wall across from the kitchen. We replaced these with a nice looking ceramic tile and continued the look into the bathroom The wall across from the kitchen was cleaned of all the adhesive and left with the beautiful walnut finish.

Locking flat screen swing out bracket's for RV's

Posted by: DaveLJ

Tagged in: Untagged

After extensive searching we have finally found a good quality swing out arm with a nice positive locking system for use in RV's. For installations where the viewing angle needs to be changed, this is the ticket. Another positive is the large amount of storage behind the flat screen, once occupied by the old tube tv.

A simple pull strap positioned at the bottom of the TV just needs a slight tug to release the bracket!
We have these in stock as well as working displays in our showroom

Flat screen TV's and MCD's

Most Class "A" coaches that are more than a year or two old have a couple items in the cockpit that are really outdated. Tube Televisions and pleated fabric curtains are both bulky and generally less than attractive. An LCD installation along with The MCD American Duo cockpit shades can really clean up the front end. In many cases to install the front power MCD shade we will also need to do the flat screen installation to make it work, as the shade often needs to go right through where the old Tube TV box was. That was the case with the coach featured in the pictures below. The rear TV box had to be built accordingly to allow for the shade. The front shade is powered and controlled by two switches located on the dash panel, the side shades are generally manual, but can be powered if the customer requests. Custom valances are built to cover the top portion of the shade and finish off the factory look. On the side windows we replaced the old fabric window treatments with custom built solid oak valances and installed the MCD shades as well.

Installing a LCD flatscreen on a power lift in a motorhome!

Posted by: DaveLJ

Tagged in: Untagged

This customer was tired of looking sideways and up to watch tv in their motorhome. Their coach was equipped liked most motorhomes with a center mounted front tv. In the living room, they had a sofa on the passenger side and a dinette booth in the drivers side slideout.
They wanted a comfortable place to sit and watch tv, so together we came up with the idea to remove the standard dinette booth and custom build a wall cabinet with a center dining table. In the center of the cabinet we installed a 32" LCD tv on a power lift. We built a new center cabinet section with a door to access the storage space once occupied by the original tube tv. Across from the new dining room tv cabinet we installed an ultra leather double incliner, giving them a comfortable seating spot directly across from the tv. We also removed all of the front carpet and installed a nice cherry laminate floor all the way forward including the slide out.
