The Good Sam Club RV Owners’ Advisory Council has begun a survey to assess problems with RV tires.

The survey has been sent to about 250,000 Good Sam Club members to determine the frequency of tire failure and the RV owners’ knowledge of tire selection, care and maintenance.

Tom Gonser, chairman of the advisory council, said a number of RVers have expressed concerns about RV tires, but the extent of the problem is unclear.  “The failure rate of RV tires is simply not known at this point because there is no data available to confirm or refute those concerns,” he said. “Our survey will involve an extremely large sample size and should begin to provide answers as to whether a problem with RV tires exits, and, if so, what types, sizes and brands of RV types might be most involved.”  The survey could also provide information for education programs on tire safety.

A company in Pennsylvania is proposing to turn a Holiday Inn into a $75 million resort casino by putting 36 RVs on the property to rent as rooms and by opening a large RV park.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Penn Harris Gaming thinks a resort casino in Camp Hill would appeal to an underserved population—people who travel the country in RVs looking for places to visit.  A six-acre parking area would be converted into RV World, where RVers could park while gambling.

By adding 36 new RVs to the hotel and renting them as rooms, the company would meet a state requirement that a hotel casino have 275 rooms. The hotel has only 239 rooms. The proposal is one of a number of projects competing for permits from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The owner of Toutle River RV Park in Castle Rock, Washington, has initiated a policy of providing free camping for active-duty military personnel, and is urging other campgrounds to follow his lead.

“It is a very small way of saying, ‘Thank you’ for all the hard work and sacrifices men and women in the military make,” said owner Charlie Curry. He has established a website, tentsfortroops.org, to list campgrounds that offer at least two days of free camping to military personnel. Campground owners are invited to go to the website to add their campgrounds to the list.

Curry is hoping the website will become a resource for military personnel to find free camping throughout the country.
At the Toutle River RV Park, the free camping offer is subject to availability. Military personnel must call to reserve a campsite and must present their military ID on arrival.
