Kevin Drews, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, was dismayed when the awning fabric on his new RV deteriorated from sun and weather exposure in just two and a half years. He bought an expensive replacement, and sought to buy a protective cover for his awning, but found none on the market. Drews said salespeople would tell him, “We don’t have anything, but if you find something let us know, because we have people asking the same question all the time.”
Necessity is the mother of invention, they say, and so Drews invented a UV-resistant snap-on cover system for RV awnings. And now he is selling his awning covers to the public as general manager of Awning Pro-Tech (APT).
The covers for patio awnings come in individual pieces that are four feet, three inches long. The covers can work with any length of patio awning by overlapping the pieces. On a 12-foot awning, for example, you would install three pieces, each with a three-inch overlap. On an 11-foot awning, you would just increase the overlap. The covers are easy to store because they slide inside of each other.
APT also offers covers for slideout and window awnings. These covers match the smaller diameter of these awnings and come in two sizes: three feet, three inches and four feet, three inches. Again, they can fit any length of awning by overlapping the pieces.
The covers, which are designed to fit all standard awnings, are made in the U.S. with a special UV-resistant polymer that Drews says will never get brittle, will not discolor, and will maintain its shape indefinitely. APT warrants the covers for 15 years.
Awning cover prices depend on the length of the awning. Cover kits can be ordered online at awningpro-tech.com or by calling 855-RVCOVER.
