Dr. Bill Bolton, a Santa Barbara veterinarian, has created a first aid kit that can be used to treat dogs for minor problems. With this kit, Dr. Bolton said, owners “can easily and effectively treat their pet right in the comfort of their own home, or for that matter RV or hotel room.”
The kit includes a battery-operated hair trimmer to prep a wound site, such as an area with a hot spot skin infection. Since “hot spots” are the third most common reason dogs are taken to a veterinarian, saving one trip to the vet could pay for the cost of the kit.
Included in the kit are a quick reference manual, instruments, topical antiseptics, wound dressings and medications, and a muzzle.
Dr. Bill’s Dog First Aid Kit is available for $89.95 at drbillsdogfirstaid.com or by calling (805) 687-2612. The website includes instructions on wound treatment to complement the kit. Part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Best Friends Animal Society.
