April was a tough month. At 6 am one morning we awoke to the terrifying sounds of slowly shattering glass emitting from our RV’s dining room window. For no apparent reason, the largest window in our rig decided to slowly shatter and by the time we jumped out of bed to see why our dog was panicking, a spider-web fracturing pattern had already spread across the window and threatened to explode inside our RV.
After shaking our heads and pinching ourselves to make sure we weren’t dreaming, we sprang into action and taped a garbage bag to the inside of the window pane so that if the window exploded, the glass would fall outside. Once we were reassured that our interior was safe from flying glass, I got online and searched for “spontaneously shattering RV window,” only to find a dearth of information about this very strange occurrence. I looked everywhere but couldn’t find any answers that would make me feel better about what was transpiring.
Instead of wasting my time searching through more vague results, I simply headed to the Escapees RV Discussion Forums and queried members with this question:
We’re sitting here in a RV park at 6 am listening to the awful sound of our large, single pane dining area window shattering . . . I have a feeling that replacing it is going to be a pain (no pun intended, really). We have an extended warranty that’s about to run out in 2 weeks, glad that it happened now I guess. I can’t wait to get on the phone and call them, this is going to be fun. Has anyone heard of this happening with their RV?
In less than one hour, I had over a half-dozen reassuring responses from experienced full-timers who did their best to calm me down and explain that everything would be OK. What a gift!
This is one of many positive experiences I’ve had with Escapees’ Discussion Forums. Whereas many other online forums for RVers are often filled with unhelpful know-it-alls who fail to deliver the kind of real help and support that someone wants during a crisis, the Escapes Forums members are compassionate Good Sams who genuinely work hard to take time and help fellow RVers with suggestions and tips. These forums are one of the greatest resources on the web for fast help to your full-time RVing problems, and the Escapees RV club doesn’t even charge non-members a fee for using them. And even if these terrific Escapees members don’t have the kind of insight you need to solve a dilemma, at least they’ll do their best to let you know you’re not alone during a rough time.
If you have a problem related to RVing, whether it’s about your rig or getting along with your spouse, turn to the Escapees RV Discussion Forums for help. I guarantee that you’ll walk away feeling a little bit better, wiser and acquainted with some high quality friends who will be there as best they can during your moment of need.
We still don’t know why our window shattered, but at least now we know that a few other Escapees RVers have experienced the same thing, and lived to tell about it.
