This week we are going to cover the installation of the Gold Heat mats, and the ceramic tile. The mats are rolled out in the motorhome and the fit is checked. We set this coach up with a front and a back heat zone. Each mat will be independently controlled by its own thermostat. The digital thermostats operate off of a floor sensing temperature probe. This allows you to dictate the temperature of the floor, not the room. The first step is to run an ohm's test to make sure the mats are functioning properly. This will be done before during and after the installation to insure the mats are not damaged during the process. Next the mats are stapled into place, and an area of the subfloor is routed out for the power leads and floor sensor. The two mats will cover 145 square feet at 13 watts per square foot for a total of 1900 watts, which is comparable to the amount of power used by a coffee pot or hair dryer. Next we install the two thermostats, and connect the mats to the 110 volt system. The mats are now producing heat, and checked once more. The Watsons decided to install the tile using an offset square pattern. We use a lazer shot down the center of the coach to assure the pattern is straight front to back. The tiles are now set into place, starting in the rear and working forward. The stepwell on this coach will be getting rubber step treads and uprights, tile on the sides and a matching corian bullnose around the top. Grout is installed and sealed, then matching cherry wood quarter round will finish all outside walls. The tile is now completed and heating to 86 degrees. Currently the temperature in our shop is 45 degrees, and the Watson's coach is a comfortable 70 degrees inside! If you have any questions or comments, please forward them to us!
