When it comes to traveling long distances, those hours on the road can really add up and start to fog up your mind if you don’t do something about it. Most RVers know that a trip without at least a few long stops throughout the day is not a fun time for anyone involved, and should always be avoided. But maybe you need a quick pick-me-up on top of your daily stops. If you’ve got fifteen minutes to sit back in a relatively silent area, you’re already more than halfway on your way to meditation on the go.
Meditation has gained extreme amounts of popularity over the course of the past few years as a coping mechanism for anxiety, stress and depression, and is a centuries-old practice originating from the Eastern world. Meditation is completely secular and is practiced by people of all religions and all walks of life. The process itself is almost embarrassingly simple, yet can take a lifetime to master. It is the simplicity of meditation that makes it so wonderfully versatile.
Anyone can begin to learn meditation without having to purchase any equipment whatsoever. All you need is a chair or a place to sit (cross-legged on the floor works just fine) and a peaceful environment. Note that a peaceful environment is paramount in order for you to get the most out of meditation, so it may help to go off on your own when the RV stops for the day and go find a place to sit quietly.
Basic breathing meditation is performed by closing the eyes, sitting up straight with hands folded on the lap, and taking a brief diaphragmatic breath in through your nose, letting it out through your mouth. Concentrating solely on your breath, repeat this process for fifteen minutes. If your attention wanders, just bring it back to the breath without passing any judgment. After fifteen minutes, open your eyes and take note of how relaxed you feel.
RVers who love to live an active lifestyle could benefit greatly from learning how to meditate. Best of all, it doesn’t cost you anything!
