Changing your diet to promote good sleep is an important step towards improving your overall health, wellness and quality of life. Sometimes these dietary changes are all that is needed to ensure proper sleep, but in some cases you might need to take additional steps to remove blocks to restful sleep and improve your overall sleep experience.
Creating a relaxing, restful environment in your sleeping area is a simple way to set the stage for better sleep. This may seem like a challenging task if your sleeping area consists of a loft over your RV’s cab or a converted dining table, but while those with a separate master bedroom might find it easier to customize the space to create a relaxing environment, any type of RV sleeping arrangement can be improved upon for a more restful experience.
The first step is to remove clutter. Living or traveling in an RV has most of us used to more confined quarters and has instilled an undying devotion to innovative storage solutions and making sure that everything has a place; however, it is easy to get a little lax about this once we hit the open road. Ensuring that your sleeping area is clutter-free is essential in creating a space that is dedicated to rest and rejuvenation, and that is free of the distractions and stress that clutter can cause.
The next step in enhancing sleep is to ensure that you have a comfortable mattress. If you mainly take weekend road trips and are a fan of roughing it, then you might be okay with the mattress or cushions that came with your RV; however, if you prefer longer trips or are finding it difficult to sleep while on the road, it might be time for an upgrade. And upgrading to a better RV mattress is easier than you might think; even those fancy beds where each partner can pick their own level of firmness or softness come in options designed specifically to fit RVs. Once you have a great mattress, don’t forget to cover it with comfy bed linens made from soft, organic cotton or other quality materials. This, of course, is also an easy, inexpensive way to improve the comfort of your bed if a new mattress might not be in the budget at the moment.
Next week, we’ll take a look at a few other things to help promote sound sleep, whether in our RVs or not.
