Woof! Smokey the dog here again. My owner is busy planning our next big RV adventure and told me if I write this weeks blog he would give me a doggie treat. Well, like any dog, I will do anything possible for a treat, which brings me to this weeks subject. A number of weeks ago my owner blogged about camping with the church youth group and needing a bigger campfire ring http://www.rvlife.com/67-dave/2998-need-a-bigger-fire-ring.html Well, in addition to the 24 humans camping out that weekend were two dogs, myself and my buddy Trupe. Now while the humans were sitting around the campfire learning about God’s word, Trupe and I were performing camp clean up duty picking up any scraps of food the youth (adults too, but I won’t tell) dropped while sitting around the fire. The next afternoon I found my buddy Trupe lying in the ashes of the fire ring. The humans thought it was funny and that maybe he was absorbing the heat left from the day before. I have a different theory. I have heard the humans talking about the Biblical custom of sack cloth and ashes to show deep repentance when someone did a bad thing and felt terrible about it. Well, I think Trupe snitched some hot dogs when nobody was looking and this was his form of repentance. After all, us dogs will do anything for a treat, wrong or right! Speaking of treats, it is time to go collect mine! Until next time, Woof!

Dave Helgeson’s many roles in the RV industry started before he even had a driver’s license. His grandparents and father owned an RV dealership before the term “RV” had been coined, and Dave played a pivotal role in nearly every position of an RV dealership. He and his wife Cheri launched their own RV dealership in the Pacific Northwest. The duo also spent 29 years overseeing regional RV shows. Dave has also served as President of a local chapter of the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA), worked on the board of advisors for the RV Technician Program of a local technical college, and served as a board member of the Manufactured Home and RV Association. Dave’s reputation earned him the title of “The foremost expert on boondocking,” bestowed by RV industry icon, the late Gary Bunzer (The RV Doctor). When he’s not out boondocking, you’ll find Dave in the spotlight at RV shows across the country, giving seminars about all things RVing. He and Cheri currently roam in their fifth travel trailer, with Dave doing all the service, repair and modifications to his own unit.
