I breathed a sigh of relief as the RV crested over the summit of Yuba Pass on Hwy 49 in California. After numerous switchbacks and a steep uphill grade to the top of the pass, it was all downhill to the campsite near Downieville. However, my joy was replaced with horror as we passed a sign informing us that bridge repairs farther down the highway prohibited any vehicles in excess of 23 feet from passing. Discussions with a citizen in Sierra City and a couple of Cal Trans workers, confirmed that no RVs would be getting through anytime soon. The only way to proceed was to turn around and go back over the pass and re-cross the Sierra Nevada Range on Interstate 80. Unexpected detours, just another adventure in RVing.
