Today is “Giving Tuesday,” an annual day of celebration to honor the people and organizations who are making the world a better place. This is a day when charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
One group that we RVers can rally around and celebrate is The Habitat For Humanity RV Care-A-Vanners program.
RV Care-A-Vanners is a volunteer program for anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle, wants to build Habitat houses and have fun doing it. The group welcomes people of all ages, from all walks of life who want to pick up a hammer and help change lives.
There are ample opportunities to learn and plenty of meaningful work for everyone and you can volunteer any time of the year. You don’t even need to have construction or home building experience – even job site gophers are needed to get the jobs done.
Think you want to give RV Care-A-Vanners a try? Just sign up to volunteer with a RV Care-A-Vanners chapter after you determine when you want to help, then meet up with a preferred chapter in various parts of Canada and Mexico. Each chapter tackles specific, Habitat-funded projects that include everything from framing homes to laying roofs, interior work like cabinetry and flooring and rehabbing homes affected by natural disasters.
Endless opportunities exist to promote Habitat’s vision of Habitat’s vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” We hope you’ll give it a try!
