Adventurer has entered the double-slide truck camper market with a new model that includes a California king bed, slideouts that expand the dinette and galley areas, and the option of dual recliners.
Greg Tucknies, the company’s sales and marketing manager, said the new model is a response to customer and dealer demand for a double-slide truck camper that is comparatively light and inexpensive. He said the company drew up a long wish list and asked the engineering department to build a camper with a list price under $40,000, dry weight of 3,600 to 3,700 pounds, huge exterior storage, a king bed, panoramic views, an open floor plan and more, including a design that would make the camper usable with slideouts in either the opened or closed position.
“When I presented it to the engineering department, they laughed,” Tucknies said. But, he added, they went to work and produced a unique camper that met nearly all the criteria. In fact, in the case of the bed in the master suite they went even further, making room not just for a king bed but for a larger California king. The new Adventurer 116DS is designed for long bed dually trucks and has a base dry weight of 3,794 pounds. A slideout on the driver’s side extends the dinette area, and the second slideout at the rear extends the galley. The camper functions with the slideouts in or out. There is a side entry on the passenger side.
Buyers can have either the standard sofa that makes into a bed and has a large storage drawer underneath or opt for two wall-hugging recliners that provide theater seating for watching TV or just relaxing. Large windows provide panoramic views.
The exterior storage includes a large motorhome-style cargo bay at the rear with room for ice chests, skis, fishing poles or other gear. A feeling of luxury is conveyed by the exterior of Lamilux 4000 gel-coat fiberglass and an interior that includes maple hardwood cabinet doors.
The suggested retail base price is $35,455. You can add a number of options, including dual recliners, and still keep the price under $40,000. For information, visit amlrv.com.
