A water bottle can also used as a lantern when equipped with a cap from Davis Instruments. You can buy the LightCap 200, which fits any bottle with a two-inch mouth, or the LightCap 300, which contains both the cap and a plastic water bottle that is BPA-free.
Both models provide light from LEDs. All the electronics, including a solar cell and battery, are sealed inside the cap. The sun charges the battery during daylight hours. A built-in sensor switches the light off during the day while the battery charges and then back on at sundown. The system can provide up to 15 hours of light on a full charge.
The LightCap 300 includes a 32-ounce bottle that is nine and a half inches tall. It comes with a retaining ring so it can act as a hanging lantern. The cap also can be used by itself as a small flashlight.
The LightCap without the bottle is priced at $24.99 and the LightCap with the bottle is $29.99. For information, visit davisnet.com
