Ron Daise, the vice president of creative education at Brookgreen Gardens, will host Gullah/Geechee Mania! on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. in the Wall Lowcountry Center Auditorium. Gullah/Geechee Mania! is an interactive, cultural game show that informs viewers about the unique Gullah/Geechee culture and heritage of the southeastern coastal United States. Each guest becomes a contestant who will gain points for answering questions about Gullah/Geechee people, songs, history, culture and foods. Gullah/Geechee Mania! is free with garden admission and will not be held on Wednesday, February 25.

Guests are invited to explore the Silent Cities of Brookgreen Gardens. This two-hour excursion will take guests through the decades-old cemeteries of former slaves and plantation owners as they learn about the historical burial customs of European and African origin. Tickets are $15 in addition to garden admission and must be purchased at Keepsakes, the gift shop at Brookgreen Gardens, at least 10 minutes prior to departure time. Now through Friday, March 6; Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – The Oaks Plantation History and Nature Trail Guests are invited to view the archeological dig site of the original plantation house foundations, as well as the foundation of the Spring House and the historic Alston family cemetery on this self-guided walking trail through the woods at Brookgreen Gardens. Interpretive panels tell the history of the people during the rice-producing years at the Oaks Plantation. Tickets are $3 per person in addition to garden admission.
“We are always trying to bring interesting and informative events to Brookgreen Gardens that speak to a wide audience,” said Helen Benso, vice president of marketing for Brookgreen Gardens. “We host these historical events every winter, not only to honor the history of Brookgreen Gardens, but our history as natives of the South Carolina Lowcountry as well. We hope that these and other culturally significant programs will attract additional guests to view our spectacular gardens and immerse themselves in the history and culture of this beautiful and unique area.”
