The Strongback chair, invented by outdoor and fitness enthusiast Ladd Lougee, is a camp chair with lumbar support. Lougee said the idea for the chair began with a camping trip to Mammoth Lakes in California when he was sitting in a camp chair and asked his fellow campers if anyone else had a sore back from using those chairs. All the campers were healthy, active and in their early 30s, but agreed that the chairs were giving them problems.
That experience set Lougee to work on a chair design, and he came up with 30 prototypes before settling on one that gives good back support without adding bulk or weight. Lougee said the fabric of the Strongback chair conforms to and supports the natural lumbar curve of the spine, and the chair is conveniently portable.
The chairs are offered with a money back guarantee and are available in versions at $39.95 and $59.95 at strongbackchair.com.
