Major League Baseball’s Spring Training draws plenty of RV-golfers to the annual Grapefruit League at venues throughout Florida during March and early April. A perfect place to stay while visiting the various baseball parks in central Florida is The Great Outdoors RV & Golf Resort in Titusville, near Cape Canaveral.
A membership RV park like many other Florida resorts, the facility offers many lifestyle choices that range from RV sites to custom-built homes designed with RVers in mind. You can stay at this resort for a night, a week, a month, or a lifetime.
All sites have level, concrete pads, along with utilities including water, 30/50 amp electricity, cable TV, telephone, and sewer. Sites are generally 40 by 80 feet, with some larger lots available. Most of these spacious sites are secluded by palm, oak, and southern pine trees and many are adjacent to the jewel of the resort: The Great Outdoors Golf Club. Open to the public, this 18-hole, Par 71 course was designed by award-winning architect Ron Garl, and opened in 1988. It plays 6,542 yards from the championship tees and is the perfect blend of magnificent golf holes sculpted in the beautiful natural surrounds of the St. John’s National Wildlife Refuge.
The Great Outdoors Golf Club, which is meticulously maintained, provides a stimulating challenge for all skill levels. The course is complemented with paved cart paths, picturesque wooden bridges that span the wetlands, white-sand bunkers, and numerous water hazards. Roughly 30,000 rounds of golf are played here annually. In addition, there’s a fully outfitted pro shop and teaching professionals available. Tee times may be made up to three days in advance by calling the pro shop directly at (321) 269-5524.
After a round of golf, you can compare scores (or make up scores) while having a beverage or dining at the resort’s Blue Heron Restaurant.
Activities nearby include experiencing America’s history of flight at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum or the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame. Pristine, white-sand beaches, the Canaveral National Seashore, cruise ports, shopping, and hospitals are minutes from The Great Outdoors Resort RV & Golf Resort, as are several spring training Major League Baseball stadiums.
In addition, enjoy miles of open, natural beaches, or walk among endangered species at the world-renowned Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. The weather in central Florida is subtropical, with an average yearly temperature of 71.8º F.
