RVers planning to visit Civil War sites this summer can find helpful information at the National Park Service’s website, nps.gov/civilwar. The site lists more than 1,700 Civil War sites around the country, including more than 100 national parks with Civil War themes. The locations range from San Juan Island National Historic Park in Washington state, where Gen. George Pickett first made a name for himself, to Florida’s Dry Tortugas National Park, where Union prisoners were held at Fort. Jefferson.
The website includes directions to battlefields and other locations, a Civil War timeline, and biographical and historical information. The introduction of the website coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh.
