{mosimage}The Avanti is the first motorhome built on the W16D chassis from Workhorse Custom Chassis. The W16D is lower and narrower than a traditional Class A chassis, permitting a lower, sleeker aerodynamic motorhome design.
The Avanti is 31 and a half feet long, nearly 12 inches lower than a conventional coach and six inches narrower. The lower center of gravity is designed to improve handling.
“We built the Avanti to be the most drivable motorhome in its class,” Fenech said. “We wanted to create an automotive feel behind the wheel.”
{mosgoogle left}The claim of 14.5 miles to the gallon is based on preliminary independent testing. The Avanti is powered by a 200 HP Maxx Force diesel engine from Navistar International Corporation that is mated to an Allison six-speed transmission. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is 16,000 pounds.
Owners of large motorhomes looking to downsize are one of the marketing targets for the Avanti. The relative lightweight of the chassis gives the motorhome extra payload capacity, permitting additional storage space. Matt Thompson, vice president of Avanti sales, said, the new model is “a great choice for both a first-time buyer or an experienced RVer looking to drive something a little ‘greener,’ but with the storage and amenities they’re used to.”
The interior includes a walk-around queen bed, large screen TV, split bath layout, curved cabinetry, and a 9.9 cubic-foot refrigerator. Both the exterior and interior reflect European styling.
