Elkhart County, Indiana, which has been in the national spotlight as the center of unemployment due partly to a sharp decline in RV production, is beginning to rebound, according to the Elkhart Economic Development Corporation.
Dorinda Heiden-Guss, the organization’s president, said the area is attracting diversified manufacturing and that the area’s truck and RV manufacturers are now “leaner and greener” with new lighter weight, more fuel-efficient offerings. Among the gains she cited were the addition of 50 jobs at Dutchmen RV, 1,190 jobs at Gulf Stream Coach in a partnership with Electric Motors, and 200 jobs at Keystone RV. Among RV suppliers, Dometic Corporation added 241 jobs and Atwood Mobile Products added 94.
