A few weeks ago we looked at utilizing a WDFW (Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife) vehicle pass to camp on WDFW lands. Another great opportunity for camping on public lands is ORV (Off Road Vehicle) areas across the west. Most allow overnight camping. Some even offer improvements such as fire rings, picnic tables and toilets. Best of all, there is typically no charge to camp. On weekends you will be sharing the area with ORV enthusiasts, so expect the noise that comes with the sport. On weekdays you will most likely have the entire area to yourself. Just a few areas where you can camp include: Five Mile Pass in Utah, Capital State Forest in Washington, and Olancha Dunes in California. Enjoy the adventure!
