Author Christine Barnes produced Great Lodges of the West in 1998, Great Lodges of the Canadian Rockies in 2000 and Great Lodges of the National Parks in 2002. Now, she has added to this collection with a 176-page volume that focuses on lodges in Colorado, Wyoming, California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Hawaii.
Current photos of the lodges as they exist today are interspersed with historic photos and architectural drawings that add to Barnes’ detailed explanation of how the parks were created and the lodges came to be built.
Showcased in this volume are the Stanley Hotel at Estes Park, Colorado; the Lake Hotel at Yellowstone, the Jackson Lake Lodge at Grand Teton National Park, Wallowa Lake Lodge in Oregon, Lake Crescent and Lake Quinault lodges in Washington, Volcano House in Hawaii, and Glacier Bay Lodge and Camp Denali in Alaska. The lodges range in design from neoclassical to contemporary.Research Campgrounds, Plan RV Safe Routes & Turn your phone into an RV GPS.
