The aluminum webbed folding lawn chair, which seemed to disappear from the market, is once again being made in the U.S. by a company in a small southeast Georgia town.
The manufacturer is Lawn Chair USA, a sister company to Waltrich Plastic, which has been producing webbing for lawn chairs for more than 40 years. The company’s owners recognized that the old-fashioned chairs were still in demand, found some vintage equipment, and used creativity and hard work to bring the design and manufacture up to date.
The new chairs fold up flat for compact storage, and are easy to carry. They are also light—the heaviest is about four pounds. Lawn Chair USA makes five styles of chairs and is continuing to develop new designs.
The company points out that while many manufacturers have gone out of business or outsourced their products overseas, Lawn Chairs USA is using high-quality materials and employing skilled American craftsmen to build its chairs and their webbing in this country.
