A new dealership selling quality pre-owned motorhomes and towables has opened in Eugene, Oregon, under the ownership of two men who together have 45 years of experience in the RV industry.
Gary Hoffman and Rich Marston are the owners and operators of RV Sales of Oregon at 2100 Highway 99 N, a half mile south of the Belt Line. The business is on a newly paved two-acre lot occupied by a large selection of recreational vehicles, including travel trailers, fifth wheels and both gas and diesel motorhomes. There is also a large indoor service facility.
Hoffman started his career in the RV industry in Eugene as a salesman at Romania RV Center in the early 1990s. Over the last 12 years he was sales manager at RV Corral and more recently at Guaranty RV.
Marston has extensive experience in the sale of high-end motorhomes, including eight years as a company owner at Beaver Coach Sales of Oregon in Bend.
Shane Prom, who has more than 20 years of experience in RV service, has joined the new dealership as service supervisor. Most recently Shane managed a service facility in Coburg, Oregon. He is currently booking Instant Service appointments for all RVs.
Asked about starting the dealership in the midst of a recession that has hit the RV industry hard, Marston said, “We feel like the worst is behind us and the opportunities are incredible right now to reach out to the baby boomer section of travelers.” Baby boomers range from 45 to 63 years old—ages, when people are most likely to buy an RV.
Marston also said that the recession has more people looking for used vehicles rather than new ones. RV manufacturers slashed production of 2009 models, he noted, and so many people have turned to the pre-owned market to find a wider selection.
The new dealership opened August 3 and in that short time since, Marston said he has seen signs of an industry revival. More young people are getting interested in camping, he said, and the typical pattern is for a person to go tent camping, buy a small RV first, and then move up the line to progressively larger travel trailers, fifth wheels and motorhomes.
Marston said the new dealership has the inventory to meet all those needs, with everything on the lot from small trailers to luxury coaches. And he is promising a buying experience that will bring customers back for subsequent purchases. “We’re building the business on repeat and referral customers,” he said.
