The U.S. Power Squadrons and the BoatUS Foundation have developed a new online course to help boaters navigate on lakes and rivers. The course is entitled “Boating on Rivers, Locks and Lakes.”
The course teaches boaters how to deal with swift-moving waters and avoid commercial ship and barge traffic. “We all learn to some degree by trial and error,” said Amanda Suttles Perez, BoatUS Foundation director of education. “The problem is that these unique waterways sometimes don’t leave much room for error. By using an advanced online educational tool, we’re helping boaters gain that experience in a stress-free environment that will help them get more out of the inland boating lifestyle.”
The course is available at usps.org/edonline. The cost is $40, or $31.60 for members of USPS, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Great Lakes Cruising Club and, for a limited time, BoatUS members.
