The Eagle Cap Excursion Train, which takes passengers on a scenic tour along the Grande Ronde and Wallowa rivers in northeast Oregon, will start its season on Mother’s Day from a newly built train depot in Elgin.
The 3.5-hour roundtrip includes a stop in Vincent and lunch aboard the train. Excursions will begin with a Mother’s Day brunch on May 12 and include trips on nine Saturdays, June 15, July 20, Aug. 31, Sept. 14, 21 and 28, and Oct. 5, 12, and 19.
The Wallowa Union Railroad Authority, which was created by the Wallowa and Union county governments in 2003, purchased 63 miles of scenic railroad between Elgin and Joseph and has been operating freight and passenger service since 2004.
