Mount Angel. The numbers are almost all in and it is apparent that gross sales and attendance were up at this year’s Mount Angel Oktoberfest. The three lead non-profit food booths broke records. The Silverton Knights of Columbus reported gross sales of $48,061.00, followed by Saint Mary Parish Mount Angel with $47,848.63 and the Gervais Knights of Columbus with $39,116.50. The non-profits take their earnings back to their communities to help foster their good works.
The theme for Oktoberfest 2009 was “Embrace Our Bavarian Heritage”, and our many visitors did just that! Girls with flower head bands and dirndls, and men in lederhosen and Bavarian knee socks were seen everywhere, and the number grows each year. Our local purveyors of all Bavarian attire are doing a thriving business, not only during Oktoberfest, but all year long. This is exciting for us because we know these visitors are planning to return again and again. Yes, our festival has become a must annual event for more and more of our visitors, indeed often a reunion of family and friends.
These welcome visitors make it possible for Oktoberfest give out large donations to many worthy non profits in our region. As with last year, vigilance in the venues and well designed designated driver programs have rewarded us with our lowest rate of indiscipline ever recorded. We have truly morphed into a wonderful family event! The dates for Oktoberfest 2010 are September 16 through 19.
