Whether you want to go whitewater rafting, take a scenic bike ride, or explore the famed Paiute ATV trail, you are in the middle of the action at the Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort in Utah.
The resort, located on Utah Highway 89 just north of Marysvale and south of Interstate 70, includes not only a deluxe RV park, but also log cabins, a motel, a convenience store, a gift shop, and an ice cream store.
The location along the Sevier River provides direct access to bike and ATV trails, and the river itself provides adventure with whitewater rapids. River guides lead groups on a scenic 10-mile trip down the rapids through a canyon with steep walls that rise 500 feet above the river. On this ride, participants do not just sit back and let someone else do the paddling, but become part of a team navigating the rapids.
The Paiute ATV trail, which is hundreds of miles long and has been called an off-road rider’s dream come true, can be accessed directly from the park. One of the highlights of a trail ride is a visit to Miners’ Park, where you can see mining equipment that was used when the area was settled in the 1860s, and take a self-guided tour that explains what the area was like during that era.
The Candy Mountain Express Bike Trail is located behind the resort, and offers a good way to enjoy scenic views.
There are many other recreational opportunities available too, including fishing, hiking and birdwatching.
Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort is sponsoring a triathlon July 17 that will showcase some of the recreation available in the area. Participants will ride a bike for 7.5 miles, run for 7.5 miles and kayak on the Sevier River for three miles. Competitors can enter as individuals or as a three-person team, with each person completing a portion of the challenge. There are three divisions: youths 12 to 17, adults 18 and older and family groups of any age. Entry fees are $25 per person or $60 per team. Prizes include Las Vegas trips, ATV tours and cash. There will also be a raffle with prizes, and after the event, there will be a barbecue and live music. For information on the triathlon visit awesomeadventuretv.com/triathlon.
