RV shipments to dealers are running about 9 percent ahead of last year, and further growth is expected in 2015, but that’s not the only good news in the recreation industry, according to a new report from the American Recreation Coalition.
The coalition, which represents organizations and corporations in the recreation industry, said sales of boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, and ski equipment are all posting gains this year. Camping at private and state campgrounds is also up. The one segment experiencing a decline is camping at national parks. The coalition said visitations to national parks are up 2 percent this year from the depressed levels of 2013, when there was a steep drop because of hurricanes, fires and budget cutbacks. But overnight stays at national parks continue to decline this year, the coalition says, because of a lack of promotion and failure to make upgrades. Camping could increase next year, however, since the National Park Service is planning a major promotional effort in conjunction with its 100th anniversary.
