A strong first quarter has made it increasingly likely that manufacturers will ship more than 300,000 recreation vehicles to customers this year for the first time since 2007.
Data collected by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association shows an 11 percent gain in shipments in the first three months of this year, compared with the same period last year. Motorhomes had the biggest gain, an increase of 23.7 percent. Trailers, which comprise 90 percent of the RV market, were up 9.8 percent. The RVIA is expecting shipments to total 307,300 this year, an 85 percent gain from the recession low in 2007.
