A consultant to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association has raised the forecast for RV shipments this year to 379,400, a gain of 6.3 percent over 2014 and the highest total since 2006.
Richard Curtin, director of consumer surveys at the University of Michigan, said he anticipates a 7.4 percent shipment increase in conventional and fifth-wheel trailers and a 2.3 percent increase in motorhomes. His forecast in a spring RVIA publication is a substantial increase over the industry forecast of last December, which predicted the shipment of 361,400 units this year.
The new forecast is based on an expectation of an economy with continued job growth, improving wages and a negligible increase in inflation.
