Lockboxes with motion monitoring technology have been created by Xitel Technologies in Austin, Texas, for use at home or on the road in an RV.
They can be used to lock up a cell phone, iPod, digital camera, keys, watch or other valuables. A motion detector sounds a loud alarm if anyone attempts to pick up or tamper with the unit while it is armed. The alarm will continue ringing until the lockbox is dropped. If the unit is picked up, the alarm will sound again. Â
One version, called the Portable SmartSafe, is a lightweight plastic lockbox with a steel locking mechanism. It is about eight inches by five inches and can be carried along to the beach, a mountain camping trip, the gym or any place where you need to protect your possessions.
The other version, the Personal SmartSafe, is similar in size but is heavier because it is made of metal. It comes with a steel attachment cable so you can tether it inside your RV or home. The Personal SmartSafe has a retail price of $89.95, while the Portable SmartSafe is priced at $79.95.
