Sand, surf and scenery have always been Seaside, Oregon’s main attractions, but if you time it right, you’ll also find show quality vintage vehicles lining the streets. September 11-13, 2015 are the dates for the beachfront town’s annual “Wheels and Waves” where you can expect unique builder and street cars from 1965 and older. Live music helps set the scene for a trip down memory lane, so be sure to bring your camera— the colorful paint jobs and shiny chrome are works of art! Although many participants will have their cars on display throughout the day on Friday, September 11, and then again on Sunday, the main “Show and Shine” event is 7:00 am – 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 12. On Saturday evening you can hear as much as watch the Street Cruise through downtown Seaside between 5:00 and 5:45 pm.
Even without the vintage vehicles, Seaside is just plain fun. This small town boasts the largest arcade on the Oregon coast where you can play Skee-Ball and video games, get a crash course in bumper cars, or take a spin on the old-fashioned carousel. You can also shop ‘til you drop in gift stores and art galleries, feed the seals at the Seaside Aquarium, and enjoy the promenade. Seaside’s 1.5-mile oceanfront promenade
and automobile turnaround are among ¬Oregon’s most famous landmarks. The Prom and Turnaround are right on the beach and offer panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean framed by windswept dunes and beachgrass. The Lewis and Clark statue at the center of the automobile turnaround commemorates their historic journey here in 1806.
If you enjoy this year’s Wheels and Waves, mark your calendar for next year— the event will be September 8-11, 2016. There’s also a Seaside Muscle and Chrome show scheduled for June 18, 2016. With all the fun things to do while in town, you’ll easily discover that Seaside is more than just a day at the beach!
