The North Head Lighthouse, which was put into service at the mouth of the Columbia River on the Washington coast in 1898, is now owned by Washington State Parks, after a transfer of ownership from the U.S. Coast Guard. The transfer was approved 19 years ago, but was delayed by the need to remove soil that was contaminated with lead-based paint. The lighthouse, which is located at Cape Disappointment State Park, is open for tours from May to September.
