The Axis and its companion vehicle, the Vegas, feature European styling in a Class A motorhome that is unusually compact—just 25 feet long, 8 feet wide and 11 feet high.
RVBusiness named the Axis/Vegas as its 2014 RV of the Year, citing its attractive exterior styling, profusion of space inside and other features, including the use of the Ford E-350 commercial chassis with a V-10 engine. The strong chassis gives the motorhome a gross vehicle weight rating of 12,500 pounds and a gross combined weight rating of 18,500 pounds. A low center of gravity provides extra stability.
The Axis has lots of sleeping space with twin beds in the rear of the coach that can convert into a king bed, a hide-a-bed sofa and a drop-down bunk over the cockpit. An unusual double-hinged door can extend the bathroom so that it becomes a large changing room.
LED ceiling lights reduce energy use, and tinted windows save on air conditioning. The kitchen includes a double-door refrigerator, three-burner cooktop, convection microwave oven, and laminate countertops.
Thor designates the new models as Recreational Utility Vehicles, designed for consumers who want the benefits of a motorhome in a vehicle than is more maneuverable and smaller than the traditional Class A coach. The suggested base retail price is $93,675.
