In Part 1, we covered three ways to save money while staying healthy on the road. In this post, let’s chat more about how easy and convenient it can be to save money on the healthy products you love by using coupons while you travel. If you do not currently use coupons, you might want to consider taking up this money-saving hobby.
If you plan to use coupons while RVing, the easiest way to stay organized and save space is to create a simple coupon binder that you can use at home and while on the road.
Clipping coupons from Sunday papers and magazines, and printing coupons for healthy products online does not take much time and is definitely worth it once you see just how much you can save. The trick is to follow one or more couponing blogs that list current sales and match them up with coupons that have recently been published in papers or are available online. This allows you to find the best deals in town without taking the time to scour sales circulars and try to match sale items with coupons you have on hand. There are lots of coupon bloggers out there, but one popular one that has lots of general information on how to save the most money with coupons and posts weekly coupon match-ups for a variety of stores is The Krazy Coupon Lady (www.thekrazycouponlady.com).
Once you start using coupons, you will certainly want to take your coupons with you on RV trips, since saving money while traveling means there will be more money to spend on fun attractions, souvenirs and side trips. To do this in a manner that will help you stay organized and will not take up extra room in your RV, create a coupon binder that will be just as handy when doing your regular shopping at home as it will be when on the road.
All you need is a three-ring binder, some baseball card inserts and some dividers. Label each divider for a section of the store or type of item you purchase regularly, such as produce, bread, snacks, pasta, drinks and personal care items. Baseball card inserts that are designed with nine card slots per page are perfect for holding coupons and allowing you to easily flip through to find the one you want.
For added convenience, also consider including a pencil pouch in your binder, which will provide a spot to stow scissors, paperclips, a pen, a calculator or other items you might want when clipping coupons and saving money on healthy items while on the road.
