The Flathead Valley in western Montana has always been a favorite golf getaway for many. One of the highlights of the region is Polson Bay Golf Course, which sits adjacent to Eagle Nest RV Resort. The two establishments are a great combination for the RV golfer.
Located a quarter mile from Flathead Lake’s finest public beach, Eagle Nest offers 56 spacious grass sites, all with a view of the Mission Mountains. Some sites offer telephones, and all have 50 amp service, free Wi-Fi, pull-throughs, and interior paved roads. Other resort amenities include showers and restrooms, cable TV, a recreation room, bike and walking path, laundry facility, and small gift shop.
Polson Bay Golf Course began as a Works Progress Administration project in 1936 and opened for play in 1938. The course has long been recognized as one of the finest public golf courses in Montana. It was expanded to 18-holes in 1989 and to its current 27-hole layout in 1999. The par 72 18-hole championship course measures 7,008 yards from the tips, while the Olde Course is a nine hole, par 36 that is 3,209 yards. The Polson Bay Golf Course tournament schedule for 2013 is available for viewing on the company web site at www.polsonbaygolf.com. There are lots of competitive options, including the Lake City Open in May, the Father’s Day Scramble on June 16, and the Valley Cup Qualifier in July, to name a few.
From the resort and golf course, side trips can include Glacier National Park, the Big Mountain at Whitefish, Swan Lake, Kerr Dam, the National Bison Range, Historic St. Ignatius Mission, Pablo and Nine Pipe wildlife refuges and reservoirs, and Lake Mary Ronan. Attending the Port Polson Players Theater is another fun outing.
Take a ride back in time aboard Glacier National Park’s vintage Red Buses. Daily scenic, narrated tours leave from most lodges and motor inns. Going-to-the-Sun Road offers a breathtaking view of both sides of the Continental Divide. Contact number for Red Bus Tours is 406-892-2525.
