Country music’s Amy Grant and Vince Gill proudly lend their names to promote an annual golf tournament in Los Cabos, Baja Sur California, which helps fund the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation (LC CF). The 7th annual Amy & Vince’s Fred Duckett Challenge will be held on April 5-7, 2013, at the Querencia Golf Club, Palmilla Golf Club, and Puerto Los Cabos Golf Club. The tentative entertainment line up includes Under the Streetlamp and Sammy Hagar. Golf personality David Feherty is also scheduled to appear.
According to Cindy Walsh, organizer of the event, the Fred Duckett Challenge is named after the southern California real estate developer who had a second home in Los Cabos, and shared his kindness with all he encountered. His legacy and his family’s continued efforts drive much of what the LCCF seeks to accomplish.
Walsh says that in the spring of 2010, with 40 acres of land donated by Grupo Questro, one of the areas most prominent land developers, construction began on Amy & Vince’s Spirit of Joy Children’s Cancer Center. The site is located in Cabo Real along the Tourist Corridor. The foundation plans to transform the site into a children’s medical campus that will include a wheelchair manufacturing facility, a Ronald McDonald House family residence, a rehabilitation center, medical training facilities, and eventually a world-class hospital.
For the last six years, the LCCF has taken the lead in advocating for children with medical needs in greater Los Cabos. The organization’s mission is to provide medical, educational and humanitarian assistance to children, their families, and supportive organizations of the Los Cabos area.
Walsh described the evolution of the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation. “It’s like dropping a stone in a still pond; it creates wave circles that keep growing and spreading.” The LCCF continues to grown, touching many lives and hearts along the way. The 7th annual Amy & Vince’s Fred Duckett Challenge helps foster that goal.
